Marilyn Delores Hawkins

Marilyn Delores Hawkins, 70, of Inglewood Dr., Morganton, formerly of Sugar Maple Lane, Conover, went home to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday, December 29, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1940 in Graham County, NC to the late Wayne Rogers and Libby Ricker Rogers. Mrs. Hawkins was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Granite Falls and had retired after many fulfilling years of private duty nursing. She enjoyed keeping a journal, writing short stories, scrapbooking and video games with her grand children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Hawkins; and brothers, David, Harold, Tony and Jackie Rogers.Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Wanda Poteat of Nebo, Marty Kay Milton and her husband, Terry of Morganton and Stacey Wilson Burgess and her husband, Scott of Hickory; a son, Mark Wilson and his wife, Renee of Morganton; a sister, Kay Fields and her husband, John of Rogersville, TN; and nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 at Sossoman Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Marilyn Hawkins Memorial Fund, c/o Mark Wilson, 207 Inglewood Dr. Morganton, NC 28655. The family would like to thank everyone at Valdese Cancer Center and Hospice and Palliative Care of Catawba Valley, Newton, NC for their love and care shown to our mother during her time of sickness.
