Mark Dwane Pritchard, 58, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Thomasville, NC on February 14, 1959, he was the son of Eugene Joseph Pritchard of Marion and the late Jessie Lucille Townsend Pritchard.
Mark was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, was on the Finance Committee, was a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the choir. He was a member of Gideon’s International and was a past member of the board of the Burke County Chamber of Commerce Board and the Burke County Human Resources Group.
Mark loved Jesus and exemplified that in his everyday life and in his battle with cancer over the last 2 years. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He had a kind, gentle, humble spirit and everyone he met became a friend. Mark was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed. He was an avid reader and enjoyed rides with the Table Rock Sports Car Club.
In addition to his father, Mark is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cathy Short Pritchard of the home; daughter, Michelle Poteet Barrier and husband, Brian; son, Stuart E. Poteet; grandsons, Trevor Brian William Barrier and Luke Brian Barrier; brothers, Joseph Eugene Pritchard and wife, Marny, of Drexel, Wade Allen Pritchard and wife, Suzanne, of Taylorsville, KY, and Gary Lane Pritchard and wife, Shelly, of Valdese; and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Hodges and Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
