Martha Carswell

Martha Carswell, 76, of Morganton, NC went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, August 27, 2012. Born in Sanford, FL on March 12, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Victor Johnson and Rosalie Lightsey Edmunds. Martha was a member of Friendly Freewill Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and assisted with the training union at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Skyland Textiles and Wamsutta Mills. She loved animals and working with flowers.Martha is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wilson Carswell of the home; children, Martha Jane Courson of Georgia, Pamela Fletcher of Valdese, NC, Oleaf Earl Byrd and his wife, Karla, of FL, Catherine Watson and her husband, Basil, of Morganton, Robert Dale Carswell and his wife, Rebekah, of SC, and Sean Paul Carswell and his wife, Crystal, of Morganton; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carol Ann Edmunds and Vickie Johnson.In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her step-father, Wingate Edmunds; a granddaughter, Tanya Rose Ingle; brothers, Hubert and David Johnson; and a sister, Bonnie Inman.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Michaels officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
