Martha Fisher Jenkins, born April 20, 1940, departed this earth to join her heavenly father on July 2, 2016.
Martha was a brilliant woman who graduated with honors from Mars Hill College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She devoted her life to education, teaching home economics in the Burke County Public School System for thirty-three years. Martha loved literature, music, and the culinary arts. She served proudly as the organist for Bethel Baptist Church for more than forty years. She instilled the passion for reading and cooking into her sons and grandchildren.
Martha loved the Lord and her family at Bethel Baptist Church. She was a devoted member who was always there for those who needed her Along with her dear friends, she served many delicious meals to families either welcoming a new child into the world, celebrating a wedding, or mourning the loss of a loved one. She saw to it that the altar was always adorned by beautiful flowers, many of which were grown and arranged by her and her loving husband, Nick.
Martha was preceded in death by her father, William H. Fisher and mother, Julia C. Fisher.
Martha is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Nick Jenkins and her children, Ernie and Robbie Jenkins of Kings Mountain, Will Jenkins of Asheville, and Penny Jenkins of Morganton. She had five grandchildren that she was so very proud of, Nick Jenkins, Jordan Jenkins, Tommy Jenkins, Logan Jenkins, and Makenzie Young. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Fisher and his wife, Diana of Cullowhee.
The graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. John L. Whisnant and Rev. David Stikeleather officiating.
