Martha Jean Fox Abernathy

Martha Jean Fox Abernathy, 72, of Morganton, NC went to her heavenly home on Friday, June 14, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born July 3, 1940 in Caldwell County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Lester Levi Fox and Clara Presnell Fox. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. For many years, Martha worked as a certified nursing assistant at Autumn Care of Drexel.She is survived by a son, Larry David Abernathy of Morganton; a daughter, Mary Jo Lambert and husband, Bill, of Morganton; grandchildren, Bradley Lambert and wife, Shari, and Carrie Abernathy; great grandchildren, Destiny Moss, Easton Lambert, and Ayden Nelson; a sister, Lois West of Lenoir, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe Abernathy; her infant twin brother, Marvin Dean Fox, Cloyd Fox, Paul Fox, and Perry Fox; and a sister, Louise Church.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Clarence Correll officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 2441 Antioch Rd., Morganton, NC 28655, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
