Martha McClellan Suttlemyre, 79, of Morganton, NC passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015. Born in Bessemer City, NC on July 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Edward McClellan and Ethel Whitley McClellan. Martha was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church where she served as the church secretary for several years. She was active in the Knit Wits Prayer Shawl Ministry. Mrs. Suttlemyre worked as a secretary at Freedom High School from 1974 until 1992. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones.
Martha is survived by her sons, Jay Suttlemyre and Eric Suttlemyre and his fiancée, Brandy Lingerfelt, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Erika, Jamie, Jadee, and Mylah; a great-grandson, Owen; and a sister and her family, Barbara Russell of Bessemer City.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, James “Herb” Suttlemyre.
As per Martha’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
