Mary Carswell

Mary Carswell, 81 of Morganton, NC passed away after a period of declining health, Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Born on April 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Bonnie Parsley. Mary was a member of Salem UMC where she sang in the choir and was a past Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher. She worked at Burke County DSS, Western Piedmont Community College, J Iverson Riddle DEV Center and Broughton Hospital. Mary enjoyed going to the mountains and the beach. She was a Carolina Panthers fan and Duke Basketball fan.

Mary is survived by her sons, Eric Carswell, Dennis Carswell (Nikki); daughter, Amy Causby (Fred); sister, Shirley McKinney (Bruce); sisters-in-law, Margaret Carswell, Mary Anderson (John); 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and another one due in August, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, James Carswell; brother and sister-in-law, Fred Parsley (Betsy), Bill Parsley (Barbara); sister and brother-in-law, Helen McGee (Fred), sister, Dorothy McEntire.

The family will greet friends from 12 until 2 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2022 in the fellowship hall of Salem United Methodist Church. A private family graveside will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem UMC, Hope Chest for Women, which supports women in WNC going through cancer treatment, or Amorem Hospice in Hudson, NC.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Ashley Case and her staff and the Infusion Center staff at Hope Women’s Cancer Center, Alan Hicks, DNP, FNP and staff, Dr. Rhett Mays, UNC Healthcare, and Amorem Hospice of Hudson, NC for their kind and compassionate care during her last weeks.
