Mary Etta Causby Gibbs

Mary Etta Causby Gibbs, affectionately known as “Grunt”, 99, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2018.  Born February 4, 1919 in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Carl H. Causby and Florence Carswell Causby.

Mrs. Gibbs was a member of First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine.  She enjoyed antique collecting and going to the flea market.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Bennett Gibbs; brothers, Pete, Booge, and Joe Ben Causby; sister, Sally Causby; and nephew, Blaine Causby.

Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughter, Betsy Gibbs Lowdermilk of Morganton; grandson, Jon Lowdermilk and wife, Amy, of Morganton; two great-grandsons, Jonathan Lowdermilk and wife, Samantha, and Joshua Lowdermilk all of Morganton; nephews, Larry and Jerry Causby; and niece, Mary Collier.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 19 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Michael Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at Glen Alpine Cemetery.
