Mary "Fronia" Mathis

Mary "Fronia" Mathis, 76, of Bollinger Loop, Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 18, 2006 at her residence following an extended illness. Born Madison County, NC on September 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Davis and Alzia Crow Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, David Mathis, Vanessa Mathis, and Van Doran Mathis; five brothers, Winfred, John, Fred, Woodard, and Warren Davis; and four sisters, Gertie Bishop, Zelda Mathis, Barbara Davis, and Josephine Brown. Fronia had worked at Wamsutta Knitting and Drexel Heritage, and was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years, William Carl Mathis of the home; five children, Bobby Mathis and wife, Wanda, Sam Mathis and wife, Elizabeth, Johnny Mathis and wife, Patrice, all of Morganton, Rev. Douglas Mathis and wife, Debbie, of Hemingway, SC, and Louise Hamby and husband, Carlos, of Granite Falls, NC; three brothers, Nehemiah Davis of Morganton, Charles Davis of Morganton, and Lattie Davis of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Edna Roberts of Marshall, NC and Wilma Fowler of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Reverends Doug Mathis and Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
