Mary Guinn South

Mary Guinn South, 94, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at McDowell Hospital. She was born on July 26, 1923 in McDowell County to the late Robert Bisco Guinn and May Effler Guinn.  Mary was raised in Crossnore, NC. In 1965, she went to work at State Industries. She also worked at Breeden Poultry and Drexel Hosiery Mills. She retired from Carolina Shoe Company. Mary was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Booney Jack South, Sr.; sons, Booney Jack South, Jr., Billy Ray South and Paul J. South; daughters, Helen South Epley and Betty Jo South; brother, Walter Guinn; sisters, Ruth Burleson, Mage Parker, Alma Jones and Tassie Poston.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda South Buff and her husband, Richard of Morganton; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm til 3:00pm, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 3:00pm at the church with the Rev. Terry Robinson and Rev. Dean Presnell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
