Mary Idella Branch Hoke

Mary Idella Branch Hoke, 96, of Burkemont Ave., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at her home. Born in Burke County, NC on December 23, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Pinkney Branch and Alvina Wilhelmena Heele Branch. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Quinton Hoke; brothers, Joseph Holmes Branch, Cecil Douglas Branch, Richard Donald Branch, and Leroy Walter Branch; and sisters, Ruby Branch Scott, Catherine Branch Byrd, Minnie Branch Williams, and Amelia Branch Wall.Surviving are her son, Johnny Pinkney Hoke and his wife, Mable Queen Hoke of Morganton; a daughter, Ann Hoke Paschal of Dahlonega, GA; sisters, Virginia Branch Kirby and Faye Branch Leonhardt both of Morganton; numerous nephews and nieces; and a special family friend and Mary’s caregiver, Steve Holder.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Reverends Mark Conforti and Donald Freshour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.
