Mary Lou Morrison Walker, 97, of Morganton died Thursday, March 20, 2014. Mrs. Walker was born in Cherryville, NC on May 10, 1916 and was a daughter of the late Leslie Edward Morrison and Lucy Dellinger Morrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin B. Walker, Sr.; brother, John Morrison; and by sisters, Edith Morrison, Edna Morrison, Ruth Hoyle, Laura Bowman, and Doris Black. She was a seamstress and was a member of Valdese First Baptist Church and a charter member of VFBC "Owls".Surviving are her sons and their wives, Franklin "Benny" Jr. and Linda Walker of Valdese and Dennis and Cheryl Walker of Morganton and her granddaughters and their husbands, Sandra and Jeff Whitener of Valdese and Tiffany and Barry West of Winston-Salem.The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Valdese First Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Keys and Rev. Timothy Horldt officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. in the church parlor. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Walker’s honor to First Baptist Church, Challenge to Build, 500 Faet Street, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 29690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
