Mary Olivia York

Mary Olivia York, 87, of Connelly Springs, NC died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on August 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Lafayette York and Nettie Chapman York. Mary was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed keeping children.Mary is survived by her daughter, Shelvia Lail and her husband, Russell, of Connelly Springs; grandsons, Michael Lail and his wife, Debi, of Connelly Springs, Brian York of Connelly Springs, and Kelly York of Hickory, NC; two great-grandsons, Jason York and his wife, Stephanie, of Connelly Springs and Benjamin Lail of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Hazel Smith and her husband, Howard, of Connelly Springs; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Arlen York; a son, Arlin Darlis York; and three brothers, Darlis, Alvin, and Herman York.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Fulbright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
