Mary Self Marcus

Mary Self Marcus, 70, of Secrest St., Morganton, NC died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born on September 26, 1938 in Burke County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Caldwell Self and Jennie Lorine McDaniels Self. Mary was a member of Living Word Full Gospel Church. She was a former employee of Breeden’s Poultry and Alba Box Plant.She is survived by her grandchildren, Jessica, Abby, Kyle, and Timmy; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Self and wife, Peggy, and James W. Self and wife, Jewell, all of Morganton; sisters, Mildred Thames and Patsy S. Stamey, both of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Phillip Marcus; sons, Paul Eugene Marcus and Roy Lee Marcus; and a brother, Ben Junior Self.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
