Mary Shuping Bailey

Mary Shuping Bailey, 99, of Morganton died Sunday, April 1, 2012. Born in Burke County, NC on November 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Laxton Shuping and Sudie Morrison Whisnant Shuping. Mary was a charter member of Brookwood Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Skyland Textiles. She was a devoted mother to her sons, whose father, Grover, died when they were very young. She was also an avid gardener.Mary is survived by her sons, Warren Bailey and wife, Faye, Phil Bailey and wife, Kathy, and Terry Bailey, all of Morganton; a granddaughter, Crystal Bailey of Morganton; several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grover Bailey; sisters, Mamie Snipes, Florence Snipes, Lena Poteat, and Inez Shuping; and an infant brother.The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Reverends Bill Jennings and Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
