Mary Smith Reep

Mary Smith Reep, 83, of Reep St. in Glen Alpine, NC died Monday, April 20, 2009 at Grace Hospital. She was born April 15, 1926 in Mecklenburg Co., and was the daughter of the late Allen B. and Maybelle Brown Smith. Mary was a member of the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Appalachian State University, and then received her Master of Arts degree in Counseling with certifications in Math, Physical Education, and English. Mary was a teacher in the Burke County School System for 40 years, and was the first counselor at Freedom High School. She took great pleasure in writing poetry and was a published poet.Surviving are her husband of 59 years, W. C. Reep of the home; sons,Tom Reep and wife, Elizabeth R. Reep, of Morganton, and Allen Reep of Raleigh, NC; a grandson, Hunter Reep of Raleigh; and a sister, Helen Smith Korbler of Charlotte, NC.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Glen Alpine Cemetery with the memorial service immediately following in Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. Rev. David Duncan will be officiating at the services. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church Education Building Fund, PO Box 576, Glen Alpine, NC 28628, or to a charity of personal choice. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
