Mary Sue Harrill passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 at White Oak Manor, Waxhaw, NC. Born in Morganton, NC on September 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Claude M. and Lena Oxentine Harrill.
Mary grew up in Morganton and was a graduate of Morganton High School. She was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church where she served on multiple committees. She enjoyed many years singing in the church choir.
Mary was a humble person who exhibited friendliness and kindness to everyone and was never one to draw attention to herself. Although she was stricken at the age of two with polio, which affected the use of her right side, she was determined to maintain an active and productive life.
Mary adored her nieces and nephew and provided love and laughter to their lives and reveled in their visits. After caring for her Mother until her death, Mary moved to her sister's home in Waxhaw in 1991 where she lived happily for the remainder of her life.
Mary is survived by a brother, L.C. Harrill (Betty) of Morganton, NC; a sister Margaret Steele of Waxhaw, NC; three nieces: Susan, Linda, and Connie; and a nephew, William.
The family would like to thank the staff at White Oak Manor of Waxhaw, N.C. for their loving care of Mary for the last five and a half years.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. David Carriker and the Rev. Douglas Goforth officiating.
