Mary Sue Michaels

Mary Sue Michaels, 84, of Jacumin Rd., Valdese, NC died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Valdese General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born August 5, 1921 in McDowell County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Harvey and Netta Huffstetler Arrowood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Michaels, Jr.; and a brother, Ray Arrowood. Mrs. Michaels was a member of Smart’s Grove Baptist Church. Mary Sue was the beloved mother of ten children.

She is survived by children and their spouses, Billy Ray and Linda Michaels of Morganton, Carolyn and Andy Rhyne of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bobby and Libby Michaels of Valdese, Donald and Edna Michaels, Tommy and Glenda Michaels, Leroy and Kathy Michaels, all of Morganton, Becky and Rick Brendle, Shirley and Kelly Benson, all of Valdese, Brenda and Jeff Fredell of Connelly Springs, NC, Frances and Raymond Harmon of Valdese; twenty grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Loney Rhom of Marion, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2006 at Smart’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Lewis and Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Becky and Rick Brendle, 3431 Greentree Acres, Valdese.
