Mary Sue Stamey Cook

Mary Sue Stamey Cook, 69, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. She was born in Burke County on February 12, 1948 to the late Kelly Woodrow Stamey and Mattie Sue Duckworth Stamey. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for J. Cook. Mary always made sure that her children were never without. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Cassell and Betty Ledford; sister-in-law, Jayne Wise; niece, Lori Sailors.
Mary is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry W. Cook of the home; sons, Jeffrey W. Cook and wife, Pam Poteat Cook and Christopher L. Cook and wife, Stephanie Davis Cook, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Kayli Cook, Kasey Cook, Elias Cook and Isaiah Cook; brothers, Bobby Stamey and wife, Wanda of Morganton, and Larry Stamey and wife, Linda of Maiden, NC; sisters, Nina Huffman, Dorothy Edney and husband, Howard, and Barbara Harrison and husband, Bennett; sister-in-law, Connie Cook; nieces and nephews, Robin, Todd, Jason, Kelly, Scott, Robin, Cathy, Linda, Alvin, Benny, Carissa, Donna, Teresa, Michael, and Rickey.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm til 1:00pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The service will begin at 1:00pm with Dr. Jack Hodges, Jr. and Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2396 Enola Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd, Valdese, NC 28690.
