Maui E. Cope King, 79 of Louisville, KY and a former Morganton resident, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Twin Brooks Nursing Home in Louisville. Born in Rock Island, TN on September 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Lively Oakley Cope and Pauline Evelyn Cantrell Cope. She attended school in Drexel, NC and graduated from high school in Lenoir, NC. After finishing school, Maui moved to Texas and lived in San Antonio and later in Houston where for many years she was employed by General Motors. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben King.Surviving are her brother, Maurice Cope of Louisville; a half brother, Perry Cope of Nevada; a half sister, June Cope of New York; nieces, Mauricea Eli and Tina Abrams; and nephews, Roy and Steven Cope.The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. David Orders officiating. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
