Melva Jean Mull Carswell

Melva Jean Mull Carswell, 71, of Bethel Rd., Morganton, NC died Monday, January 21, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born February 19, 1936 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Odie A. Mull and Clara Viola Cline Mull. She was an active lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Melva enjoyed nature, traveling, fishing and vacationing at the coast, playing the piano, staying in touch with friends, and writing poetry. She also enjoyed a good joke. Melva was devoted to her family and friends.She is survived by her husband, Cecil A. Carswell of the home; a son, Robbie Carswell; daughters, Tonja Carswell Smith and husband, Wayne, Jr., and Holly Carswell Ramsey and husband, James; a sister, Naomi M. Williams and husband, Elmer; grandchildren, Sally Carswell, Eli Smith, and Emily Smith; and a niece, Denise W. Mostiller, all of Morganton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ina Lucille Mull; and an infant brother.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Rod Randolph and Rev. Earl Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1328 Bethel Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
