Merzie H. McLean, 81, of Drexel, NC died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Autumn Care. Born in Yancey County, NC on January 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Hylemon and Mary Jane Crane Hylemon. Merzie was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.She is survived by her son, Charles C. McLean, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Drexel; daughters, Cathy Gantt and husband, Steve, of Morganton and Carol Anderson and husband, Alex, of Morganton; sisters, Addie Carswell and Goldie Rector, both of Morganton; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Merzie was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Clifford McLean; a son, Randy Leslie McLean; a brother, Mickey Hylemon; and a sister, Willeskie Carswell.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Carswell officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Alex and Carol Anderson.
