Mike Mong

Mike Mong, 73 of Morganton, NC went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was born October 29, 1944 in Franklin, PA and was the son of Betty Jean Scott Hayes and the late Lawrence Edward Mong. Mike was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mike was an avid Steelers fan. He worked at Sara Lee Manufacturing. Mike was a Pennsylvania State Trooper and also served as Chief of Police in Stonesboro, PA. He loved to play golf.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Rice Mong; children, Sharon Mong and fiancé, Martie Dale of Morganton; Donna Mong of Anchorage, Alaska; Robin Mong Foster and husband, John of Morganton; and Bobby Mong and wife, Kathy of Prattville, Alabama; grandchildren, Hilary, Patrick and wife, Ashley, and Alayna Herron, Jessica, Hannah and Kayla Davis, James Foster, Caroline, Madison, Jason, Wyatt and Emmaleigh Mong; brother, Steven Mong of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Cheryl Nellis of LaFayette, Indiana, and Karen McDowell of Duncan, South Carolina; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, Friday, March 16, 2018 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church with Rev. Yvonne Thurmond officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
