Mildred Anne Smith Anthony

Mildred Anne Smith Anthony, 80, of Drexel, NC died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Burke County, NC on November 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jess Smith and Rhoda Ellen Huffman Smith. Mildred was a faithful member of the Drexel First Church of God. She loved to read and travel and was an excellent cook.Mildred is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald "Don" Anthony of the home; a brother, James "Ed" Edward Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Morganton; a sister, Katie Amick and her husband, Jim, of Richmond, VA; a special niece, Brenda Queen of Valdese, NC; and a number of other nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by six sisters, Bessie Smith, Eula Howard, Bertha Powell, Norma Storie, Ollie Rockett, and Nancy Smith.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 at Drexel First Church of God with the Rev. Steve Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
