Mildred C. Duckworth

Mildred C. Duckworth, 90, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following a period of declining health. Born in Webster County, MS on June 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Crowley and Minnie White Crowley. Mildred was a charter member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was active with and chairman of the Parsonage Committee. For years, Mildred faithfully sent the The Upper Room devotional to the college students and shut-ins and enjoyed sending greeting cards. She worked for 15 years at Shadowline and retired from the housekeeping department at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center.Mildred is survived by her son, Billy Duckworth and his wife, Mary, of Morganton; her daughter, Olivia Murray and her husband, Jerry, of Valdese, NC; grandchildren, Jay Murray and his wife, Dora, of Valdese and April Woodruff and her husband, Joel, of Granite Falls, NC; great-grandchildren, Gavin Murray, Petyon Murray, Cullen Woodruff, and Gabriel Woodruff; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde William Duckworth; a granddaughter, Sherrie Murray; brothers, Fred, Elmer, and Edward Crowley; and sisters, Armarie Parrott, Gladys Johnson, Claudia Carswell, and Oma Edith Wyatt.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2013 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Heather Kilbourne officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p..m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
