Mildred Elizabeth Young Ellis

Mildred Elizabeth Young Ellis, 87, of Hickory, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 24, 2011. Born in Mitchell County, NC on March 31, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Preston and Geneva Woody Young. Mildred was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Lakeview Acres, Valdese.A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by a son, Larry Ellis of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law with whom Mildred made her home, Linda and Daniel Briggs of Hickory; grandchildren, Tim Stafford and his wife, Edith of Valdese, Eric Briggs of Hickory, and Sharon Bumgarner and her husband, Richard of Conover; sister-in-law, Faye Griffith and her husband, Frank of Green Mountain, NC; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank Ellis; a daughter and son-in-law, Lora and Joe Stafford; brothers and their wives, Clarence and Tempie Young, and Ralph and Lela Young; a sister and her husband, Annie Mae and Stokes Ellis; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Briggs who was 12 years old.Funeral services will be held at 7:30 pm, Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Clyde Buckner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 pm Wednesday before the service. The burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Burke Memorial Park.
