Mildred Gallion Powell

Mildred Gallion Powell, 85, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 7, 2011. Born in Burke County, NC on May 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John Dee "Chubb" Gallion and Nora Rosa Lee Johnson Gallion. Mildred was a member and secretary treasurer for many years at Morganton Freedom Church of God. For many years she was a homemaker and then was employed at Burke Mills for 16 years until her retirement. She also worked for several years at Fishers Market on East Union Street.Mildred is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert L. Powell of the home; a daughter, Judy Gray and husband, Zane, of Morganton; a son, Dennis L. Powell and wife, Lynda, of Morganton; grandchildren, Rev. Jeff Davis and wife, Stephanie, Robert "Robbie" Powell and wife, Jennifer, Karen Smith and husband, Ben, Wesley Powell, and Cody Powell and wife, Kimberleigh; great-grandchildren, Jordan Davis, Kelly Davis, Courtney Davis, Samantha Smith, Tyler Smith, Gage Powell, Kelsey Powell, and Colton Powell; a brother, Harold Gallion of Morganton; sisters, Vonnie Scott and husband, Herman, of Morganton, Ilan Hullette and husband, Bud, of Morganton, and Marie Brookshire and husband, Bill, of Mountain City, TN; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cindy Davis; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Smith; and a brother, John Gallion.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
