Mildred “Kit” Conley Kanipe

Mildred “Kit” Conley Kanipe, 78, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, March 18, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on June 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Simon Bean Conley and Emma Mae Lowdermilk Conley.  She was a graduate from Oak Hill High School and member of Zion Baptist Church.  She was very dedicated to her family, the “Queen Bee” and “MawMaw with the pool.”

Kit is survived by her children, Mike Kanipe and wife, Susan, and Kelli Armentrout and husband, Lewis, all of Morganton; grandchildren, J. R. Kanipe and wife, Misty, Amber Long and husband, Chad, Emily Armentrout, and Sarah Armentrout; great-grandchildren, Destiny, J.T., and Jenna Kanipe; a great-great-grandchild, Paeton Kanipe; and a sister, Ollie Ollis and husband, Charlie.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Kanpe; brothers, Everett, Richard, Billy, and Dewey Conley; and sisters, Ruby Keller and Dorothy Moore.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m.
