Mildred Lee LaFevers Scott, 81 of Lail Rd in Glen Alpine died Thursday, May 19, 2011. Mrs. Scott was born July 31, 1929 in Burke County to the late Roy Lee LaFevers and Julia Wesley Powell LaFevers. A very spiritual woman, she was a member of Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church, and taught Sunday school for over fifty years. Mildred was also active in Wesleyan Women at church. Mildred was a retired employee of the Burke County school system with 25 years of service. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, and spending time with her family. Mildred was well-known for her keen sense of humor.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Vernon "Phil" Scott.Mrs. Scott is survived by a son, David H. Scott and wife, Karen of Morganton; daughters, Leann S. Grogan and husband, Dave of Drexel, and Sheila S Grady and husband, Ken of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Paige Grogan, Erin Grady, and Landon Grady; a sister, Betty Ann Orders of Glen Alpine, and a number of nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church with the Reverends Roger Brackett and Dean Lavender officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
