Millard Alexander "Short" Goodman, Jr.

Millard Alexander “Short” Goodman, Jr., 88, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, November 6, 2014.  Born in Ashe County, NC on November 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Millard Alexander Goodman, Sr. and Ethel Rhoda Goodman Goodman.  Short was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and fishing with his grandchildren.

Short is survived by his children, Mary Beth Goodman Fletcher of Morganton, Susan Goodman Secrest and her husband, Jonathan, of Drexel, Steven Lee Goodman and his wife, Jan, of Morganton, and Nancy Goodman of Morganton; grandchildren, Carol Ray and her husband, Alan, Christy Traylor, Jason Secrest, Adam Secrest and his wife, Christie, Alex Goodman, Matt Goodman and his wife, Misty, Wade Goodman and his wife, Kelly, and Jordan Crump and his wife, Summer; great-grandchildren, Katherine Ray, Houston Ray, Mary Ray, Hadley Huffman, Ryder Huffman, Hunter Goodman, Kayleigh Goodman, Macie Goodman, Wade Goodman, Ava Goodman, Ella Goodman, Karalina Goodman, and Jordan Crump, Jr.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Rayne Ray.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodman was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Fox Goodman; three brothers; and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  A private family graveside will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
