Committal
Minnie Dorcas Happoldt Hodge Funderburk, 94, of Morganton went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Born in Burke County, NC on April 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William Happoldt and Minnie McElrath Happoldt.
Minnie grew up in Logan Memorial Baptist Church and then became a member of New Hope in Christ Baptist Church. She graduated from Olive Hill High School in Morganton NC and from Bands Beauty College, Charlotte NC.
Mrs. Funderburk is survived by her children, Elizabeth Yvonne Belton (Lawrence) of Charlotte, NC, William Renoggle Hodge (Venora) of Maryland, and Frances Othella Edwards of Morganton; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her first husband, James Hodge; second husband, Hazel Funderburk; son, James Wendell Hodge; siblings, Laura Mae Harrison, Emily Cox, William Happoldt, Samuel Happoldt, and Frances Happoldt; and brothers and sister-in-law, Mid Harrison, Wesley Cox, Lillian Happoldt Price, and Hettie Happoldt.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at New Hope in Christ Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Minnie Young presiding and Pastor Max Bristol officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family of Minnie Funderburk would like to say “thank you” to Dr. David Abernathy- the best and his staff, all the staff at Grace Heights. Also, thanks to the pastor and congregation of New Hope In Christ Baptist Church and Burke Hospice.
