Minnie Fay Rockett Speranza, 85, of Morganton, NC went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, September 28, 2013 after a prolonged illness. Born in Burke County, NC on February 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Nolan Steel Rockett and Bertha Suzanne Parker Rockett. Minnie was an active member for many years at Mt. Home Baptist Church where she participated in numerous committees and was a big supporter of the Graceful Giving Fund. Minnie retired from Container Corporation of America in New Jersey. After her retirement in the late 1970’s she moved back to NC to take care of her parents. She really loved to sit on her back porch feeding the animals and was an avid gardener.Minnie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles Speranza of the home; nephews, Gary, Steve, Tommy, and Bennie Rockett; nieces, Jean Stephens and Joyce Olinger; and several grand and great-grand nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her siblings, Clyde Rockett, Ned Rockett, Mozelle Busic, and Evelyn Ross.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Mt. Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 5:30 until 7:30 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church Graceful Giving Fund, 2272 Mt. Home Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
