Mittie "Dot" Brackett White, 91, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 24, 2013. Born in Rutherford County, NC on August 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George Brackett and Rebecca Queen Brackett. She married James Guy White on April 9, 1939 in Casar, NC and later moved their young family to Morganton. Ms. White worked at Skyland Textile until the plant closed and later retired from Dana Corporation. She continued to work after retirement at the Morganton Community House, where she worked until she was in her 80's. Ms. White was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church and was actively involved with her dear friends in her ladies' Sunday School class. Ms. White played basketball in school and was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels. She also regularly watched and enjoyed cheering for the Atlanta Braves. Some of Ms. White's favorite hobbies included candlewicking and embroidery. She always took great care and found enjoyment in cooking, canning, and baking. Ms. White always had a pie or cake prepared when guests visited and made chocolate gravy with biscuits for her children as they grew up. Ms. White also loved flowers and gardening. She had a "green thumb" growing a variety of plants and flowers around her home, including one of her favorites, peony roses.Ms. White is survived by her son, Larry White and his wife, Judy, of Lenoir; daughters, Shirley W. Beale of Washington state, Barbara W. Fleming and her husband, Larry, of Morganton, and Gail W. Carswell and her husband, Jerry, of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Cyndie Beale, Brenda Hansen, Charles Beale, Crystal Smith-Cooper, Jimma Carter, Tonya Kiser, Tara Hallyburton, Shayne White, Angie Reek, Blake White, Ursula Valgus, Jeremy Carswell, and Sasha Bocock; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Ms. White was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Richard Darrell White; a daughter, Mabel Ann White; a great-grandson, Richard Dylan White; a son-in-law, David Beale; and several siblings. Ms. White was the last of her brothers and sisters to pass.
The family will receive friends at Burkemont Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013. The funeral will immediately follow at the church at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. David Mills and the Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating.
