Morris “Buster” Walton Brown

Morris “Buster” Walton Brown, 84, of Morganton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 28, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on March 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Avery H. Brown and Lillie Mae Shepard Brown.  Buster attended Rain Hill Wesleyan Church.  He was a former employee of Drexel Heritage and a logger for over 42 years.  Buster enjoyed gardening and fishing.

A loving husband, father, and brother, Mr. Brown is survived by his son, James Brown (Linda); sisters, Doris Brown Duckworth, Lois Brown Epley, Shirley Brown Baker (Bobby), and Joyce Brown Courtney; honorary daughter, Elaine Burkett; honorary grandchildren, Daniel Lane, Derek Lane, Jocelyn Taylor, and Vanessa Mathis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Buster was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Davis Brown; and an infant son, Wayne Brown.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at noon, Friday, August 2, 2019 at Rain Hill Wesleyan Church with Revs. Gary Gibbens, Eddie Roberts, and Lou Gardner officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home of Mr. Brown’s sister, Lois Epley.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
