Morris Ray Ward, 85, of Connelly Springs, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
Born in Yancey County, NC on May 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard “Dooley” Ward and Pauline Boone Ward.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ima Jean McIntosh Ward; and brother, James Doyle Ward.
Ray was the owner and operator of Ward’s Backhoe and Grading in George Hildebran for many years. He enjoyed watching local baseball games in support of his grandkids. In previous years he enjoyed spending time with his family at the log cabin he owned in the mountains. He was a strong, hardworking man who cared for his family.
Ray is survived by his children, Tammy and Clay Fisher of Lincolnton, Angie and Alan Miller of Statesville, and Keith Ward of George Hildebran; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Ward (Linda) and Harold Ward (Mozelle); sister, Ruth Olsen; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Revs. Gerald Ward and Harold Ward officiating. Burial will follow at 6:30 p.m. at Boone Cemetery (located behind Plum Branch Baptist Church) in Burnsville, NC.
A special thank you to the late George “Danny” McIntosh and his surviving wife, Linda, in their continued love and support throughout the years.
