Mr. Joseph Lewis Lowdermilk, Jr.

Mr. Joseph Lewis Lowdermilk, Jr., 83, was born September 3, 1938, passed away February 18, 2022 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Joseph Lewis Lowdermilk, Sr and his mother, Mary Louise.

He was happily married to Mary Buchanan Lowdermilk for 61 glorious years. Together they shared two children, Jeffery Lewis Lowdermilk (Betsy) of Morganton and Marisa Louise Lowdermilk of the home.

They have three grandchildren, Thomas Kiel Blanton (Libby), Jordan Spencer Lowdermilk (Autumn), and Jade Isis Settle (Heath). Great-granddaughter, Berkley Lora Settle.

He leaves behind a sister, Mary Edith Cobb of Morganton and Johnny Lowdermilk (Libby) of Jefferson, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves his beloved therapy dog, Sandy Mae. She will miss him the most.

Joe was a star athlete at Oak Hill High School. He worked for many years at Mull Oil Co. and retired from Vocational Rehab.

He was a lifetime member of Burke County Rescue Squad and one of the first EMT’s in Morganton. Joe was an active deacon and a devout Christian until his passing.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 1pm, at Burke Memorial Park.
