Mrs. Elsie Lane Denton, 92, of Morganton, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Grace Hospital surrounded by family and friends.She was born on May 19, 1919, in Morganton and was the child of the late Ned Lane and Sarah Roper Lane.Elsie was educated in Burke County and graduated from Morganton High School. She was an assistant teacher at both Pilot Mountain and Mull Elementary schools. Elsie loved to read, take rides, spend time with family and had a perfect smile. During her ninety-two years she devoted herself to the care of others. She was a member of Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pinkney Denton; her brothers, Will, Shuford, Luke, Lonnie and Walter Lane; and a sister, Annie Deal.Surviving are her children, William "Bill" Denton and his wife, Judy Spake Denton, Robert "Bobby" Denton, Lynette Denton Waters and her husband, Steve Waters, Rebecca Denton Ritchie and her husband, Clay Ritchie; her grandchildren, Mark Denton and his wife, Sandy Denton, Kevin Denton, Kimberly Morris and her husband, William Morris, Robert K. Denton and his wife, Lauren Denton, Zachary Denton and his wife, Sherry Denton, Morgan Williford and her husband, Stanly Williford, Bronwyn Crain and her husband, Jason Crain, Dustin Rick Durham; and her great-grand children, Colby Denton, Jessica Denton, Sarah Denton, Brooke Morris, Jackson Denton, Hampton Denton, Kennedy Denton, Kaylee Denton, Talon Denton, and Claire Williford. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 5358 Denton’s Chapel Road, Morganton, N.C. 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
