Mrs. Patricia "Patty" Walburn Jackson, 81, of Newland St. in Morganton died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the Shaire Center in Lenoir, NC. Born April 2, 1927 in LaGrange, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Walburn and Eunice Cassidy Walburn. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she taught at Hillcrest Elementary School in Burke County for 21 years until her retirement in 1992. She also enjoyed working with children as a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Burke County Unit of the North Carolina Retired School Personnel.Patty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. F. M. Jackson of the home; sons, Dr. Daniel Jackson and wife, Debbie, of Cumberland, MD, and Thomas Jackson of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Mary J. Rasnick of Morganton; and five grandchildren, Dan "Chip" Jackson, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC, Katie J. Budris of Arlington, VA, Ashley Jackson of Little Rock, AR, Miller Jackson of Asheville, NC, and Carly Rasnick of Morganton.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Walburn.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Sydnor Thompson, III officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 902 Kirkwood St., N.W., Lenoir, NC 28645.
