Mrs. Ruth Arnett Nelms

Mrs. Ruth Arnett Nelms, 89, of Morganton, NC died on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Grace Hospital after a short illness. Born on July 16, 1921 in Huntington, WV, she was the daughter of the late Horace Brown Arnett and Elsie Dee Chattin Arnett. Ruth was an active member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Heilecker Sunday School Class. She retired from Kirksey Funeral Home and Kirksey Hardware Corporation. She was also a member of the Morganton Women’s Club where she held several offices.Ruth is survived by her nephews, Billy McNeely and Richard C. Arnett, both of Charlotte, NC; nieces, June Arnett Pope of the home and Kay Litaker and husband, John, of Charlotte; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces.In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Nelms; a brother, Leland C. Arnett; and a sister, Kathleen McNeely.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Sydnor Thompson, III officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
