Myrtle Hendrix Curtis, 93 of Morganton died Saturday, September 12, 2015. Mrs. Curtis was born September 6, 1922 in Wilkes County to the late Philmore Hill Hendrix and Josephine Adeline Church Hendrix. Mrs. Curtis was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over forty years and was on the fellowship committee. She loved to work in her flowers and collected apple and strawberry décor items. Her favorite color was red.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Walter Curtis; brothers, Carley, Council, Turner, Ira, Izard, Marvin, and Winfred Hendrix; and sisters, Julia Watson and Angeline Carswell.
Mrs. Curtis is survived by her son, George W. Curtis and his wife, Barbara of Morganton; daughter, Josephine “Jo” Curtis of Morganton; grandchildren, Susan C. LaFevers, Beth B. Woodard, Scott Curtis, Lori Ogle, Wesley Curtis, and Tammy Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Ryan LaFevers, Sarah Cayton, Brady Mull, Braxton Mull, Regan Bailey, Rylin Bailey, and Tad Ogle.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Reverends J.R. Robbins and Tony Land officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m., to 12:00 p.m., prior to the service.
