Nadine Clontz Browning, 89, of Piedmont Rd. in Morganton went home to her Lord Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a period of declining health. She was born November 22, 1920 in Burke County, and was a daughter of the late Vester Herman Clontz, Sr. and Ophelia Butler Clontz. Nadine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morganton, and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.She is survived by daughters, Ann Browning Bess of Deland, FL, Sylvia Browning Lingafelt and husband, Fred, and Victoria Browning Houston and husband, Wayne, all of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, Lucille D. Browning of Liverpool, NY; grandchildren, David Bess and wife, Caralyn, Darren Bess and wife, Carol, Leslie Browning-Samoni and husband, Tim, Nada M. Greene, Bennett Lingafelt and wife, Kelli, and Grant Houston; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Vester Clontz, Jr. of Great Mills, MD, and Dr. Franklin D. Clontz and wife, Jean, of Longwood, FL; a sister, Mary Catherine Browning of Connelly Springs, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Browning, Sr.; a son, Charles W. Browning, Jr.; and siblings, Louise Baker, Leroy Clontz, Ruby Allman, Vance Clontz, Lucy Johnson, and Dr. Luther H. Clontz.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr., Rev. Kathie Sherrill and Rev. Darren Bess officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Browning’s residence.
