Nancy Louise Schmidt, 81, of Morganton, NC died Friday, May 15, 2015. Born in Danville, PA on August 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Leon Cole and Martha Birch Cole. Nancy retired from the Burke County Public Schools System and was also known from her years of working at Salem General Store, Country Crossroads, and Kmart. She loved playing bridge and enjoyed volunteering with many organizations in the community. She made many friends with her wonderful smile.
Nancy is survived by her children, Lisa A. Walker and her husband, Joel, of Bunn, NC, Kristine L. Bumgarner and her husband, David, of Cadiz, KY, Kurt H. Schmidt of Hickory, NC, and Mark E. Schmidt of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Aaron Schmidt, Morgan Schmidt, and Gwen Huffman Burleson; four great-grandchildren; nephews, Robert and Thomas Fryer; and a niece, Annette Fryer Murray.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Herbert Schmidt; and a sister, Sara Fryer.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at Burke Memorial Park.
