Nancy Poteat

Nancy Poteat, 70 of Morganton, NC died following a period of declining health on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the home of her daughter. Born March 3, 1942 in Avery County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Harold James Stout and Monie Cole Stout. Nancy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed painting and gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was a faithful member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church where her Sunday School class was one of her joys. Nancy was known to everyone as "Meme". In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson Casey Troy Patton.Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Dennis Poteat of the home; her son, Kevin Sherrill Buchanan of Morganton; her daughter, Brenda Bradley and husband, Robbie of Union Mills, NC; her sister, Carolyn Stout Chapman of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Megan Rhom and husband, Clay, Matthew Sherrill Buchanan and Trevor Christian Buchanan all of Morganton; great grandchildren, Hannah Bowden, Camren, Caiden, and Amelia Rhom; and nephews, James Christopher Young of Shelby and William Randolph Young of Orlando, FL.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday at the church. At other times the family will be at Nancy’s home, 6054 Nowlings Chapel Rd., Morganton.
