Nathaniel "N. W." Amos, 88, of Drexel Road, Morganton, NC, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Carolina Rehab Center in Connelly Springs, NC after a brief illness. Born April 18, 1917 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late James Hoyle Amos and Ella Rector Amos. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clessie Deal Amos. Mr. Amos was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He did music for the Burke County Senior Center and was an avid dancer. During WWII he worked on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. Nathaniel also worked for Major Electric in Valdese, NC and Burke Radio as a TV Repairman.
Mr. Amos is survived by his son, Ray W. Amos, of Valdese; grandchildren, Bill Amos of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kimberly Haylock of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Billy Amos, Judith Haylock & fiancé, Ashley Van Dyke, Crystal Dula and husband, Steward, Katherine Haylock, and Stephanie Haylock; a brother, Joseph T. Amos of Morganton; and a devoted friend, Nancy Puckett.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel at Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
