Ned Rumfelt, 84, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, July 17, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on December 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Rumfelt and Martha Biggerstaff Rumfelt. Ned retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years, having served in the Korean War. He later worked for the Burke County Sheriff’s Department and as a farmer and truck driver.
A loving husband, Ned is survived by his wife, Doris Chambliss Rumfelt of the home; a brother, Homer Rumfelt and wife, Janice, of Marion, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ray, Roy, Albert, and James Rumfelt; and 2 sisters, Geneva Patton and Louise Patton.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3pm, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held at 3pm in the church with the Rev. Dennis Carswell and the Rev. Sid Houk officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Dysartsville Road with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force. At other times the family will be at the home on Patton Road.
