Ned Taylor Perkins, 85, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on May 12, 1931, he was the son of the late John Perkins and Hattie Jane Taylor Perkins. Ned was a member of Zion Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He attended the young men and women’s Sunday school class, taught the adult men’s Sunday school class, and was a member of the Brotherhood. He worked at Great Lakes Carbon for 19 years and as a Baptist minister for 30 years. Ned had also worked at Morganton Motor Sales as a car salesman, Western Carolina Center, and did furniture repair on the side.
Mr. Perkins is survived by two daughters, Sandra Durain and Lisa Walker; grandchildren, Kevin Perkins, Eric Crump, and Beth Cordell; 5 great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Sampson.
In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hollifield Perkins; a son, Kenneth Allen Perkins; a step-son, Walter Corum; a step-daughter, Jenney McGinnis; three brothers, Charles A. Perkins, Harold Perkins, and John Perkins, Jr.; and a sister, Mabel Parker.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm, Friday, March 3, 2017 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 12pm in the church with Dr. Steve Parker and the Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
