Nellie "Nell" Cannon Setzer

Nellie "Nell" Cannon Setzer, Our Beloved Nanny, 90 of York Street, Morganton, NC fell asleep in Christ on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at The Good Samaritan Center at Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL. Born in Icard, NC on September 10, 1918 to the late Edward Cannon and Lillie Mae Ervin Cannon she was preceded in death by her husband, Von Bernie Setzer. She is survived by her children, Judy Withers Setzer and Terry Vaughn Setzer both of Morganton; her granddaughters, DeRae Nell Shuffler and her partner, Rick Benfield of Birmingham, AL and Elizabeth Shuffler Lamb and her husband, Randy of Dowling Park, FL; a very special niece, Louise Hice Benfield; her great grand Angels, Lilian DeRae Lamb, Madeline Elizabeth Shuffler, and Nellie Margaret Lamb.Nanny was a member of First Advent Christian Church in Morganton and at the time of her death was the oldest member. She served her church as Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Society, Deaconess, and member of the Official Church Board. She retired from Broughton Hospital in 1978.Nanny’s family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at The Good Samaritan Center for the love and care expressed to her during her last year of life.A celebration of Nell’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2009 at the First Advent Christian Church with Reverends Jim Taber and Randy Lamb officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.
