Nollie Ray Smith, 83, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Born July 13, 1932 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Roland Alonzo Smith and Sallie Lee Lane Smith. Nollie was a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings where he was a skilled carver. He was a jack of all trades and loved restoring old cars. Nollie was a friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his faithful companion of 47 years, Helen Clark of the home and her three daughters; six nieces; and three nephews.
In addition to his parents, Nollie was preceded in death by brothers, Jessie William Smith, Clyde Ward Smith, Herbert Eugene Smith, Harold Riddle Smith, Samuel Arlow Smith, and Edward Lee Smith; and a twin sister, Ollie Scott.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 1 - 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
