Nora Branch Benfield, 83, of Morganton, NC passed away on August 20, 2024.

Nora was born in Burke County, NC on April 5, 1941 to the late Charles Branch and Fannie Navy Branch. Nora married her late husband, Walter Jones Benfield, in 1964, and together they had a large extended family.

In addition to her husband, Nora was preceded in death by her parents; five of her brothers: Clingman Adam Branch, Fred Charles Branch, James Paul Branch, Bobby Sylvester Branch and George William Branch; and three sisters: Jeane Greer, Allie Lambert and Junior Mae Pope; and three step-sons: Robert “Bob” Benfield, Richard “Buddy” Benfield and Larry “Chum” Benfield.

Nora is survived by her sisters Ruby Dula and Linda Denny; children: Richard “Rick” Moffitt, Mitzi Moffitt Beaver, Tracy Benfield and Justin Benfield; her step-children: Lenior “Babe” Benfield, and James “Lard” Benfield; as well as a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family to include all of the above mentioned member’s spouses.

Nora also worked for many years at Henredon Furniture and retired from EJ Victor in 2006.

Nora’s smile could light up any room. She was a believer in Jesus and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for many years, and a current member of North Cross Church. Her kind and gentle spirit will be remembered by all those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Brad Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside Walt and many of their family members.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
