Norma Jean Brock

Norma Jean Brock, 73, of Morganton went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at her residence following a lengthy illness. Born May 23, 1938 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Leslie Dean Whetstine and Margaret Elizabeth Powell Whetstine. Norma was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She also taught I.W.A.N.A. Norma retired as a health care technician with over 20 years of service from J. Iverson Riddle Development Center. Her hobbies were working in her garden and around her house.She is survived by her husband, Henry A. Brock, Jr. of the home; daughters, Tonya Denise Edwards Silver of Valdese, and Lisa Edwards Brown of Rutherford College; grandchildren, Dylan Silver, Brooke Silver, Allie Brown, and Beige Brown; and great-grandchildren, Ariel Silver, Skylar Mull, and Ayden Brown.In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sabra Patrice Brown; and siblings, Bill Whetstine and Maxine Rector.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2011 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
